Shaffer, Nicholas win state powerlifting titles

KENTON — Three Piqua athletes excelled at the Bill McClain State Powerlifting Championships last weekend Kenton

High School.

Piqua seniors Noah Shaffer and Camilla Nicholas set state records on their way to state titles, while Luke Shaffer had a third-place finish.

Their accomplishments were celebrated in Garbry Gymnasium Thursday afternoon.

Noah Shaffer could only be stopped by Covid, when it canceled the state championship meet his sophomore year.

Shaffer won his third state title, competing in the 155-pound weight class.

He set state records for deadlift, 585 pounds and total weight, 1,435 pounds.

Luke Shaffer, a sophomore, finished fourth in the 135-pound competition, with a total weight of 855 pounds.

Nicholas won the girls state title at 125 pounds.

She set state records for squat, 320 pounds; deadlift, 300 pounds and total weight of 730 pounds.

Dillman takes

fourth at state

Bethel High School’s John Dillman competed in two events in the D-II, III state indoor track and field meet recently.

Dillman finished fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 40-6 3-4 and 20th in the long jump with a distance of 18-11 1-4.
