MIAMI COUNTY — A new year means new faces, new projects, and new grant opportunities within Miami County. The January meeting for the Stouder Memorial Foundation Advisory Committee experienced all three scenarios. The committee welcomed two new members including Michelle Cox and Jenny Weber. Cox is the current director of Nursing at Miami County Public Health and has served in a variety of roles within that organization over her past nine years. She will bring a public health perspective to the Committee which will serve beneficial when analyzing needs within Miami County. Weber, who has acquired a background in education, nonprofits, and grant writing, plans to utilize her experience serving other foundations to build on her grant making expertise.

In addition to new committee members, the group entertained two grant applications for consideration. First, the Miami County Dental Clinic was granted $25,896 to support the Ohio State College of Dentistry Student Internship Partnership Program. This program allows fourth year dental students from the Ohio State University College of Dentistry to complete an internship at the Miami County Dental Clinic in two-week rotations. The part time dentists, Dr. Vic Dubel, and Dr. Doug Gioiello, supervise the students, and are considered adjunct professors at the Ohio State University. The students are hosted year-round and provide crucial support for the Clinic. Second, the Edison Foundation approached with an equipment request to support their Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Paramedic courses offered. A total of $13,000 was awarded to purchase an ISimulate REALTi Plus Monitor system, which will allow students a hands-on experience with the latest technology in cardiac emergencies.
