Firefighters battle a house fire in the 100 block of North Elm Street in Troy on Sunday morning, their second house fire of the morning.
TROY — Firefighters from several departments spent nearly all of their Mother’s Day morning in Troy battling a pair of house fires.
The morning began with a basement fire in the 300 block of Troy Street. The alarm came in around 9 a.m.
The fire was contained mostly to the basement area of the single-family home. One adult and four pets, two dogs and two cats, were displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the family.
A second house fire was reported minutes after 11 a.m. While several departments were still in Troy, just cleaning up from the Troy Street fire, Miami County 9-1-1 dispatchers were alerted to heavy smoke and flames coming from a home in the 100 block of North Elm Street.
Assistant Troy Fire Chief Gary Stanley said fire units arrived on the scene to find, “heavy smoke and flames coming from the back roof area of the house.”
Casstown, Covington and Tipp City Fire departments, that were enroute back to their respective stations, were requested to respond to Elm Street to provide mutual aid for the second time in two hours.
The fire was quickly brought under control.
Two persons were assisted by the American Red Cross from the Elm Street blaze.
Stanley said fire investigators will be looking to determine if the fire on Elm Street may have been caused by a lightning strike as a strong thunderstorm was over the area at the time the fire began.
No injuries were reported from either fire.
