TROY — The Covington girls basketball team came out hot Thursday night against a Troy Christian team that hadn’t played in almost three weeks and defeated the Eagles 57-25 at the Eagles Nest Thursday night.

Covington is now 11-2 overall and 6-0 in the TRC and will host Riverside Saturday night.

Troy Christian drops to 2-5 overall and 1-5 in the TRC and will host Lehman Catholic Saturday.

The Buccs missed just one shot in the first quarter from the floor and were a perfect 4-for-4 from the line in opening a 25-3 lead.

Avery Koffer scored the final five points of the quarter and hit two 3-pointers and scored eight points for the Buccs.

Carlie Besecker added six points in the quarter, Maggie Anderson and Delaney Murphy scored four points each and Gracie Anderson hit a 3-pointer.

Murphy opened the second quarter with a 3-pointer and a basket by Gracie Anderson made it 30-3, before a Brooklyn Lavy 3-point play stopped the run.

The Buccs would lead 41-12 at halftime and 49-19 after three quarters.

Carlie Besecker led a balanced attack with 14 points, Maggie Anderson scored 13 points, Murphy had 11 points and Koffer netted 10 points.

Gracie Anderson added seven points.

Lavy led Troy Christian with nine points.

Milton-Union 47,

Lehman Catholic 46

SIDNEY — The Milton-Union girls basketball team won a thriller on the road in TRC action Thursday night.

The Bulldogs, 9-2 overall and 3-2 in the TRC, will host Northridge Saturday.

Lehman, 2-6 overall and 0-5 in the TRC, will play at Troy Christian Saturday.

The game was tied 10-10 after one quarter.

Milton-Union opened a 23-15 halftime lead and led 35-31 after three quarters, before holding on for the win.

Jenna Brumbaugh had 26 points and five rebounds and Ava Berberich added 12 points, three assists and four steals.

Kate Copp scored five points, Sophie Layman pulled down six rebounds and Shannon Brumbaugh added five rebounds.

Mara O’Leary scored 20 points for Lehman, Kailee Rank had 11 points, Aubri Karn netted six points and Taylor Geise added five points.

Miss. Valley 61,

Newton 35

PLEASANT HILL — The Newton girls basketball team dropped a home game in WOAC action Thursday night.

Newton, 5-5 overall and 2-3 win the WOAC, will play at Carlisle Saturday.

The Indians trailed 14-13, 38-17 and 47-22 at the quarter breaks.

Felicity Harbour led Newton with eight points, Mya Denlinger scored six points and Reese Hess added five points.
