Tipp school takes reading to new heights

Nevin Coppock Elementary School Principal Galen Gingerich reads to his students from atop the roof of the school on Tuesday afternoon. Gingerich promised his students that if they met their Read-A-Thon goal for the year, he would climb to the roof and read a book to them.

The three-week Read-A-Thon event exceeded the goal with more than 70,000 minutes of reading. The event, which encompasses not only Nevin Coppock but also Broadway Elementary and LT Ball, raised more than $75,000 in donations this year. Donations, which were made online, will be used to purchase items such as SMART boards, playground equipment, and funding of student enrichment activities.
