Troy High School names outstanding male, female juniors

TROY – Troy High School juniors Ellie Fogarty and Connor Moeller have been named the top female student and male student, respectively, for the Class of 2023.

Fogarty received the Carson Award, which has been given to the outstanding junior female at Troy since 1924. The award was started in honor of Victoria Carson Caufield for her friendliness and hard work in Troy.

Moeller received the Vesper Award, which has been given to the outstanding junior male at Troy since 1955. It is given in honor of Carl Vesper for his 40 years of service at Troy High School teaching science.

Fogarty is a member of National Honor Society, Junior Cabinet, ASTRA, For Chistian Athletes and she recently was elected to Senior Cabinet. She also is president of the American Sign Language Club. She is actively involved in CLC Youth Group and Young Life. She has also volunteered for Reading For Change, helping elementary school students.

She works at the Sno Shack and enjoys dog sitting and babysitting. She plays varsity volleyball, JO volleyball and summer travel softball. She has made the principal’s list all three years of high school.

She is the daughter of Neil and Kerry Fogarty.

Moeller plays football and baseball for Troy High School. Academically, he has been on the honor roll every quarter through his first three years, receiving A’s in all of his classes. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Math Club, Key Club, Business Club, Interact and Student Government. He has served in leadership roles in several of those clubs. He participated in the West Point Leadership Seminar and was a Leukemia and Lymphoma Society student of the year candidate.

His older brother Collin won the Vesper Award in 2014, while older sister Camryn won the Carson Award in 2017. He is the son of Jay and Chris Moeller.

Several other members of the Class of 2023 also have received end-of-the-year awards:

• Luke Huber was named the Honda-Ohio State STEM Award winner as the top STEM scholar.

• Huber also won the Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award, given annually to the outstanding science student in the junior class.

• Nathan Weidner received the Rensselaer Medal as the top mathematics student in the class.
