Troy Legends fall to Sidney Post 217 in Region 2 championship game

SIDNEY — The Troy Post 43 Legends will head to Youngstown this weekend for the NABF World Series.

Troy lost to Sidney Post 217 9-3 Tuesday night in the championship game of the Region 2 American Legion tournament.

Troy had taken a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

Jaxon Hill was hit by a pitch and Garrett LeMaster walked.

With Hill on third base, a pickoff throw to first got away and Hill came home with the first run of the game.

Sidney would tied the game at 1-1 in the home second.

Carson Regula singled and scored on Aiden Shappie’s double.

With Shappie on third and Hayden Wibbler on first, Sidney attempted a double steal.

But, Troy Legends second baseman Nathan Woolley threw to catcher Jake Kramer to get Shappie at the plate and end the inning.

The game remind tied until Sidney exploded for six runs in the fourth inning to go up 7-1.

Pitcher Johnny Nixon helped himself with a home run to start the inning.

Regular followed with a double, Shappie walked and Jack Davidson had a bunt single to load the bases.

A balk made it 3-1 and Wibbler followed with a two-run single to make it 5-1.

Gavin Roberts had a sacrifice fly to score a run and Grant Saunders tripled in a run.

Troy got one run back in the fifth inning.

Owen Harlamert and Kale Francis walked, which would lead to a run.

Sidney took a 9-2 lead in the home fifth.

Regula and Shappie would both single and both would score by stealing home on double steals.

Troy got the final run of the game in the seventh inning.

Harlamert doubled, moved to third on a single by Francis and scored on Wes Nidzgorski’s sacrifice fly.

LeMaster, Aaron Bostic and Hill combined on a nine-hitter for Troy, striking out four and walking five.

Nixon and Wibbler combined on a three-hitter for Sidney, striking out three and walking four.
