TIPP CITY — The Troy softball team rallied in the final two innings to remain one game behind Greenville in MVL action with an 8-5 victory.
Troy is 14-3 overall and 11-2 in the MVL, while Tippecanoe is 5-11 overall and 4-8 in the MVL.
Troy was trailing 5-4 going to the sixth inning.
Brian Lavender tripled and scored on Allison Burns’ sacrifice fly to tie the game at 5-5.
Lauren Fonner doubled and scored on Lily James’ single to put Troy up 6-5.
The Trojans picked up two insurance runs in the seventh.
Lavender had a two-run double to make it 8-5 and that’s the way it finished.
Troy had taken a 3-0 lead in the top of the third.
Hallie Frigge had a single and Ashley Kloeker had a sacrifice fly to put Troy on the board.
Abigail Welbaum and Erin Bruce added RBI singles to make it 3-0.
Tippecanoe got one run back in the home third.
Ally Broering doubled and scored on Kaela May’s sacrifice fly.
Troy made it 4-1 in the top of the fourth.
Welbaum had a double and moved to third on Lavender’s single.
She scored on Burns’ RBI single.
Tippecanoe rallied with four runs in the home fourth.
Ashley Aselage had a bases-loaded triple to tie the game 4-4.
She scored on Emma Davis’ RBI single to give Tipp the lead, setting up Troy’s late rally.
Lavender was 4-for-5 with a double, triple and two RBIs, Burns had two RBIs and Fonner was 2-for-4 with a double.
Welbaum was 2-for-4 with a double and Bruce was 2-for-4.
James pitched the first four innings, allowing five hits, striking out three and walking three.
Welbaum pitched three innings of hitless relief, striking out four.
For Tipp, Ashley Aselage was 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs.
Broering had a double.
Anna Quinn and Ella Henn combined on an eight-hitter, striking out one and walking two.
The two teams were scheduled to play Wednesday at the Troy Market Street diamond.
