MINSTER — Nylani Beireis 11th inning bunt single scored Austy Miller with the winning run against Russia Friday night to cap an impressive night of softball for Bradford at the Katie Horstman classic as the Railroaders improved to 19-2 on the season.

In the opening game against Versailles, Bradford had trailed 2-1 going to the home seventh inning.

Buzz Brewer led off with a single and Izzy Hamilton followed with a single and both runners moved up a base on an error on the leftfielder.

Austy Miller then drilled a two-run single, scoring both Brewer and Hamilton to give Bradford the win and advance the Railroaders to the championship game against Russia, who had beaten Minster.

Versailles had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the first and Bradford answered in the bottom of the inning.

Skipp Milled drilled a triple. Alexis Barhorst ran for her and scored on Beireis’ infield grounder.

Versailles took a 2-1 lead in the third and it stayed that way until the dramatic finished, capped by Austy Miller’s walk-off single.

Hamilton and Buzz Brewer were both 2-for-3 in the game.

Austy Miller was 2-for-4 and Emma Canan had a double.

Skipp Miller pitched a three-hitter, striking out 12 and walking three.

Skipp Miller was even more impressive against Russia, blanking the Raiders for 11 innings.

She allowed three hits, while striking out 19 and walking five.

The Bradford 11th started with a single by Austy Miller and a sacrifice bunt by Abby Fike.

Miller moved to third on a wild pitch and Skipp Miller walked.

Austy Miller then scored the only run of the game on Beireis’ bunt single.

Skipp Miller was 2-for-4 in the game, while Maggie Manuel was 2-for-5 with a double.

Austy Miller and Emma Canan were both 2-for-5.

Troy gets

two wins

TROY — The Troy softball team improved to 18-4 on the season with two more wins.

On Friday, Troy defeated Stebbins 19-1, hitting four home runs.

Allyson Burns was 4-for-4 with a home run, four runs scored and three RBIs and Briana Lavender was 3-for-5 with three runs scored, a home run and three RBIs.

Ashley Kloeker was 3-for-5 with a home run, three runs scored and three RBIs and Erin Bruce was 2-for-3 with a double, home run and two RBIs.

Lauren Fonner was 3-for-5 with a double, Abby Welbaum was 2-for-4 and Lilly James was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

James pitched a four-hitter, striking out eight and walking one.

On Saturday, Troy knocked off Milton-Union 15-5.

Burns was 3-for-5 with a triple, three runs scored and two RBIs and Lavender was 3-for-5 with a triple and four RBIs.

Fonner was 2-for-4 with two doubles, Kloeker was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, James was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Bruce was 3-for-3.

Welbaum pitched a seven-hitter, striking out four and walking two.

For Milton-Union, Madison Jones was 2-for-4 with a double.

Carley Zimmer tripled and Raegan Fulton and Malia Johns both doubled.

The Bulldogs were coming off a 13-4 win over Tri-Village Friday.

Kelsie Tomlinson was 2-for-3 and Jones was 2-for-2 with a double.

Madison Silveria and Madison Brown had two RBIs each.

Three pitchers combined on a 10-hitter, striking out eight and walking one.

Tippecanoe picks

up two MVL wins

TIPP CITY — The Tippecanoe softball team picked up two MVL wins over the weekend.

The Red Devils defeated Sidney 16-2 Friday and Xenia 21-6 Saturday.

East sweeps

Wayne softball

CASSTOWN — The Miami East softball team got a doubleheader sweep of Wayne Saturday.

East won the first game 11-0.

Kyleigh Kirby blanked Wayne on two hits, striking out four and walking one.

She helped herself at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs.

Kaitlyn Roop was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Abigail Covault was 2-for-4 and Kayly Fetters was 3-for-4.

Jadyn Bair had a home run and three RBIs.

Miami East won the second game 3-2 as Roop and Annabelle Penny combined on a six-hitter, striking out five.

Abigail Kadel was 2-for-3 and Maddie Latimer had a triple.
