KETTERING — The Troy wrestling team opened the season with an 11th place finish at the Firebird Invitational.

T.J. Murray (120) led the Trojans.

He finished third with a 4-1 record, recording three pins and a tech fall.

Colton Trochelman (120) and Anden Kemmer (132) both finished fifth.

Both wrestlers were 3-2 with three pins.

Ethan Kirkpatrick (144) and Brayden Lester (150) both finished sixth.

Kirkpatrick was 3-2, with one pin and one major decision and Lester was 2-2 with one pin.

Piqua takes

seventh at Xenia

XENIA — The Piqua wrestling team opened the season with a seventh-place finish at the Xenia Invitational.

Logan Wells (120) and Max Kaye (150) both finished second.

Wells was 4-1 with three pins and Max Kaye was 5-1 with four pins.

Nikolai Kaye (132) and Gavin Nelson (150) both finished third.

Nikolai Kaye was 5-1 with three pins and Nelson was 4-1 with two pins and two major decisions.

Bucs take

second

MECHANICSBURG — The Covington wrestling team finished second in the Heart of Ohio Invitational Saturday, while Troy Christian finished 18th.

The Buccs had seven wrestlers compete at the event and all seven finished in the top seven of their respective weight classes.

The Buccs crowned four individual champions at the event – Carson Taylor, Michael Hagan, Jericho Quinter and Caleb Ryman.

Taylor (120) finished 5-0 with five pins, beating Lucas Eland of Lakeside in the title match.

Hagan (132) finished 4-0 with four pins, defeating Springfield Shawnee’s Logan Stover in the title match.

Quinter (138) won a 7-5 decision over Brayden Childers of Twin Valley South in the title match, finishing with a 5-0 record with three pins.

Ryman went 4-0 on the day, pinning his first three opponents before earning a 6-1 decision over Twin Valley South’s Clayton Woodgeard.

Covington’s three additional placers were Christian Clark (3-2, 2 pins) and Aveyen Meek (3-2, pin), both taking fourth place, and Kaden Thompson (2-3, pin) who finished in seventh place.

All four Troy Christian wrestlers placed.

Caleb Slife (126) finished fifth.

He was 3-1 with three pins.

Dalton Davis (138) and Carson Dyer (175) both finished sixth.

Davis was 3-2 with one pin and Dyer was 2-2 with a pin and a major decision.

Erik Cortinas (120) finished eighth and had one pin.

East wrestlers

finish 2-2

FINDLAY — The Miami East wrestling team went 2-2 in Pool D of the Findlay Duals Saturday.

East defeated Findlay Blue 57-24 and Delawaye Hayes 51-27, while losing to Aurora 39-35 and Oak Harbor 36-35.

Going 4-0 were Hudson Randall (106), Spencer Shore (113) and Drake Bennett (215).

Hudson Randall had two pins, Shore had two pins and a major decision and Bennett had three pins and a major decision.

J.D. Kemp (157) was 3-0 with a pin.

Riggins Hansgen (138), Layton Hughes (144) and Hunter Randall (165) all went 3-1.

Hansgen had three pins, Hughes had one pin and Hunter Randall had two pins and a major decision.
