To the Editor:

Renewal Piqua Street Levy vote, Tuesday, March 17, 2020. Here are the facts:

Why? Without the passage of the 0.25 percent Street Income Renewal, both the Street Reconstruction and the Street Resurfacing Program would cease to exist. Without the Street Levy Tax, we will no longer be able to apply for grants. At that point the only work that can be done is the basic in-house street and pothole patching program out of the Street Maintenance fund.

The city income tax is collected on earned income and not collected on income from social security benefits, pensions, poor relief, military pay, unemployment compensation, alimony, capital gains, parsonage allowance, intangible income, dividends, and anyone 17 years of age and younger.

This levy is simply a renewal of a tax that has been in place for 30 years, a citizen earning $30,000 a year will pay $75 per year. Better streets means less wear and tear on vehicles.
