GREENVILLE — The Tippecanoe boys basketball team needed a win at Greenville Monday night to share the Miami Valley League title with Sidney.

But, playing without leading scorer Stanley Clyne and playing its fifth game in eight days was too much for the Red Devils to overcome in a 53-44 loss to close the regular season.

Tippecanoe, the Miami Division champion, finished 17-5 overall and 15-3 in the MVL.

The Red Devils open D-II sectional tournament play at 3 p.m. Saturday at Trent Arena against Eaton.

Tipp led throughout the first half and a free throw by Liam Poronsky and a putback by Cole Coopock gave the Red Devils a 22-17 lead at the break.

But, the Red Devils scored just five points in the third quarter and trailed 28-27 going to the fourth quarter.

Josh Dietz hit a 3-pointer to tie it at 30 early in the third quarter, before Greenville scored eight straight points.

That included 3-pointers by Millions Bryant and Nolan Curtis.

Three-pointers by Griffin Caldwell and Gavin Garlitz pulled Tipp to within 42-40 with 2:00 to go, but Greenville outscored Tipp 11-4 the rest of the way.

Caldwell led Tipp with 14 points.

Garlitz scored 12 and Coppock added seven points.

Bryant led all scorers with 18 points and Curtis scored 13 points.
