MONROE TWP. — Miami County recorded its first fatal traffic incident of the year over the weekend.

Miami County Sheriff’s Office deputies along with Troy Fire Department medics and fire units responded to the crash around 4:16 p.m. on Sunday.

On Sunday, Karen Maxson, 83, of Englewood, died from her injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Nashville and Monroe-Concord roads on Sunday afternoon. Maxson was transported to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Maxson was traveling southbound on Nashville Road when her Ford Taurus was struck by a Ford F-150 truck driven by Brady Clawson, 18, of Tipp City. Clawson was stopped at the intersection of Nashville and Monroe-Concord roads, but apparently pulled out of the intersection, striking Maxson’s car on the driver’s side, which sent her vehicle into a spin, striking a light pole and then landed on its top in a field.

Clawson was not injured in the accident. Lt. Todd Tennant said charges are pending autopsy reports and further accident analysis.

Tennant said alcohol or drugs are not factors in the accident.

Troy firefighters and paramedics work to free a victim who was trapped in her vehicle following a crash on Nashville Road at Monroe-Concord Road on Sunday afternoon.
