TROY — A Covington man facing murder and felonious assault charges is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Miami County Common Pleas Court, according to court documents.

Mark J. Mayor, 47, of Covington, was indicted by a grand jury this week after he allegedly killed his father.

According to the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, Mayor is believed to have stabbed his father, David N. Mayor, 72, during a domestic dispute at their home in the 6000 block of Myers Road in Newton Township. Deputies were called to the residence around 5:30 p.m. on Monday, May 16, for a reported domestic dispute. Miami County 9-1-1 dispatchers requested Pleasant Hill Rescue Squad to stage in the area.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they found the elder Mayor lying on the floor with an apparent stab wound to the chest. Miami County Sheriff Dave Duchak previously said deputies and EMS had “performed lifesaving measures on the victim,” but the victim later passed away at the scene.

Mayor has been incarcerated in the Miami County Jail since May 16, where his total bond continues to be $1.5 million.
