Local woman sentenced for sex offense

TROY — A local woman was sentenced to a year in prison this week for a sex offense involving a minor.

Hannah E. Wood, 24, who has previous addresses in Piqua and Troy, was sentenced to 12 months in prison for third-degree felony sexual battery in Miami County Common Pleas Court, according to the Miami County Prosecutor’s Office. Wood will also have to register as a tier III sex offender, as well as undergo five years of mandatory post release control once she gets out of prison.

Wood was charged in connection with an incident that took place on or about Aug. 27, 2021 in Piqua. According to Common Pleas Court records, Wood sexually assaulted a 14-year-old victim after being told “no” by the victim.

Wood was also sentenced to 12 months in prison for drug offenses to be served concurrently with the sexual battery conviction. The drug offenses include one count of aggravated possession of methamphetamine and one count of aggravated possession of hydrocodone, both felonies of the fifth degree.

In other news:

• Also in Miami County Common Pleas Court, Michael J. Whitmer, 20, of West Milton, entered a guilty plea to a bill of information, pleading guilty to third-degree felony pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor. This charge is in connection with an offense that took place on or about Dec. 13, 2021 in West Milton, involving a sexually explicit video involving a minor. Whitmer is scheduled to be sentenced on July 5.

• Kobey C. Evans, of Ludlow Falls, was sentenced to two years of community control, in addition to completing 20 hours of community service, for charges of possession of hashish and illegal manufacturing of drugs, both felonies of the third degree. The court also imposed mandatory fines of $5,000 for each offense.
