Edison State women improve to 20-0 with win over Owens

PIQUA — The Edison State Community College women’s baasketball team cruised to a 90-60 win over Owens Wednesday night to improve to 20-0 on the season.

Edison blew the game open in the third quarter.

The Chargers led 17-10 after one quarter and 32-25 at halftime, before outscoring Owens 32-12 in the third quarter to take a 64-37 lead.

Kailah Johnson had 25 points, seven rebounds and three steals and Whitney Staggs had 21 points and seven rebounds.

Maddy Bakosh added 13 points, five assists and three steals and Allison Siefring had nine points, eight rebounds and six assists.

Nia Johnson scored 10 points and Kierra Wendel added six points.

Rylie McIver dished out three assists.

Edison was 39 of 69 from the floor for 57 percent, including one of eight from 3-point range for 13 percent.

The Chargers made 11 of 13 free throws for 85 percent.

Owens made 22 of 57 shots from the floor for 39 percent, including five of 20 from long range for 25 percent.

Owens made 11 of 22 free throws for 50 percent.

Edison won the battle of the boards 37-27 and had 16 turnovers to Owens’ 30.
