Fourteen Miami County wrestlers competing in D-III at state meet

TROY — Fourteen Miami County wrestlers advanced to the Division III state tournament, which gets underway Friday at Schottenstein Arena.

Troy Christian

Wrestling at state for Troy Christian will be Kyle Schroer (106), Jason Shaffer (132), Troy Kennedy (138) and Connor Havill (175).

Schroer, 21-6, will wrestle Adam Martin of Delta, 37-10 in the opening round.

Shaffer, 11-2, will wrestle Daxton Chase, 38-6 of Marion Pleasant, who finished eighth last year.

Kennedy, 32-5, will wrestle Michael Markulus, 41-4 of North Lima South Range, who finished fifth last year.

Havill, 23-3 and seventh-place finisher last year, will wrestle Charlie Wells, 19-4 of Sullivan Black River.

Covington

Wrestling at state for Covington will be Carson Taylor (106), Jericho Quinter (113), Michael Hagen (120), Chase Vanderhorst (126) and Scott Blumenstock (285).

Taylor, 39-8, will wrestle Hunter Lacy, 34-0 of Attica Seneca East.

Quinter, 31-5, will wrestle Drew Spreng, 36-9 of Loudonville.

Hagen, 40-4 and eighth-place finisher last year, will wrestle Brian Luft, 26-8 of Newark Catholic.

Vanderhorst, 28-3 will wrestle Connor Robbins, 25-8 of Willard.

Blumenstock, 25-10 will wrestle Jacob Maclean, 39-5 of Baltimore Liberty Union.

Miami East

Miami East has four wrestlers at state, including three returning state placers.

Defending champion Max Shore (126) and state runnerup last year Cooper Shore (113) are back.

Also returning is David Davis (157), along with Layton Hughes (138).

Cooper Shore, 26-0, will wrestle Owen McDevitt, 12-2 of North Jackson Jackson-Milton.

Max Shore, 25-0, will wrestle Jackson Bartels, 33-18 of Liberty Center.

Hughes, 28-10, will wrestle Andrew Sas, 39-6 of Ashland Mapleton.

Davis, 39-2 and a fifth-place finisher last year, will wrestle Brendan Sheehan, 39-7 of Newark Caatholic.

Lehman Catholic

Lehman will be represent by John Edwards (190) at the state meet.

Edwards, 43-6, will wrestle Logan Lloyd, 53-6 of Milan Edison.

Lloyd finished fourth last year.
