COVINGTON — For six weeks, the Covington girls basketball team had been chomping at the bit to get another crack at Bethel.

That’s because Bethel handed Covington its first loss of the season on Dec. 2 by the score of 43-38 in a game where the Lady Buccs felt they didn’t play to their potential.

And Thursday, Covington made amends with a very impressive 46-25 win.

Covington improved to 12-3 overall and 7-2 in the TRC, while Bethel dropped to 12-2 overall and 6-2 in the TRC.

Covington will play Northridge Saturday, while Bethel will host Lehman Catholic.

Covington, who had its best defensive effort of the season, led 8-6, 26-12 and 38-22 at the quarter breaks.

Carlie Besecker led Covington with 14 points and five rebounds.

Maggie Anderson scored 12 points and Gracie Anderson added nine points, while both sisters pulled down five rebounds each.

Claudia Harrington added six points, eight rebounds, three assists, three blocked shots and three steals.

Claire Fraley had 16 rebounds and blocked two shots and Erika Gostomsky had three assists.

Karley Moore led Bethel with 14 points.

Troy Christian 42,

Milton-Union 35

WEST MILTON — The Troy Christian girls basketball team got a road win in TRC action.

The Eagles improved to 7-6 overall and 5-4 in the TRC, while Milton-Union dropped to 6-9 overall and 3-6 in the TRC.

Troy Christian travels to Riverside Saturday, while Milton plays at Miami East.

The game was tied 12-12 after one quarter.

Troy Christian took a 21-15 halftime time lead and led 29-28 after three quarters.

Troy Christian Sarah Johnson led all scorers with 19 points.

Jocey Hill scored 10 points and Brooklyn Lavy added seven points.

Jenna Brumbaugh had 17 points, six rebounds and five steals for Milton-Union.

Shannon Brumbaugh had eight points and eight rebounds and Ava Berberich had seven points, seven rebounds, five steals and three blocked shots.

Raegan Fulton pulled down five rebounds.

Miami East 49,

Lehman 14

CASSTOWN — Miami East took over sole possession of first place in the TRC with a win over Lehman Catholic.

The Vikings improved to 11-4 overall and 8-1 in the TRC. The Cavaliers dropped to 6-9 overall and 4-5 in the TRC.

East will host Milton-Union Saturday, while Lehman plays Bethel.

The Vikings led 17-4, 26-6 and 40-13 at the quarter breaks.

Maryn Gross had 10 points and four steals, Logan Phillips scored eight points and Jacqueline Kadel netted seven points.

Paxton Humley had six points and blocked two shots, Camryn Francis had five rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots, Kayly Fetters had nine rebounds and four steals and McKayah Musselman had six rebounds.

Kyleigh Kirby also had four steals.

Mara O’Leary led Lehman with six points.

Layla Platfoot had seven rebounds and Caroline Wesner added six rebounds and three blocked shots.

Newton 46,

TC North 35

PLEASANT HILL — The Newton girls basketball team improved to 6-9 overall and 3-5 in the WOAC with a home win.

The Indians will play at Legacy Christian Saturday.

Newton led 11-6, 19-13 and 31-26 at the quarter breaks.

Camryn Gleason had 19 points and five assists, while Layla VanCulin had a double-double with 12 points and six rebounds.

Reese Hess added six points, Merdedes Craig grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked two shots and Emma Szakal had five assists and six steals.

Bradford 55

UNION CITY — The Bradford girls basketball team dropped to 9-7 overall and 4-3 in the WOAC.

The Railroaders play at St. Henry Saturday.

Mississinawa Valley led 18-7, 36-22 and 57-36 at the quarter breaks,
