Lehman Catholic’s Edwards alive at D-III state wrestling

Lehman senior wrestler John Edwards ran into a buzzsaw in his opening match at the Division III State Tournament at the Jerome Schottenstein Center at The Ohio State University in Columbus on Friday as he faced Logan Lloyd (54-6) of Milan Edison, a wrestler who placed fourth last year at 182 pounds.

Edwards, who made his first trip to state by taking fourth in the 190 pound weight class at last week’s district meet, took the action to Lloyd, but the Milan Edison wrestler was able to record a takedown and then lock up the Cavalier wrestling into a cradle for the pin in 1:18.

Needing to put the defat behind hi m in a hurry, Edwards returned to the mat nearly three hours later against Blake Elliott of East Knox. Edwards responded in grand fashion as he recorded a shutout victory over the East Knox wrestler, 7-0.
