MMHA board to meet April 21

TROY — Miami Metropolitan Housing Authority/Miami County CAC Board meeting will be April 21 at 9:30 a.m. It will be in the Small Conference room in the MMHA/CAC building. This is at 1695 Troy-Sidney Road, Troy.

American Legion offering Saturday dinner

PIQUA — American Legion in Piqua is having a chicken dinner on Saturday, April 23, from 5-7 p.m. Meal includes four-piece chicken, baked potato, coleslaw and roll. Cost is $9. Opened to the public, take in or carry out. They will start taking orders at 4:45 p.m.

Booking signing, presention set for April 23

PIQUA — The North Star Coffee Station located at 655 N. Main St. in Piqua will be hosting a book signing and brief introductory remarks by several local authors at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 23. The scheduled authors will be:

• Janice Marler, “Grandma’s Wisdom or Not”

• Ann Donnelly Hamilton, “If I were a Bumblebee”

• Dora Sherry, “Reflections of an Angel”

• Larry Hamilton, the “Lucy’s Story” trilogy

All you bookworms, come on out and support these local authors! They guarantee it will be a great time.

Stick around till 3:30 p.m., and see Josh Bledsoe, a well-known local singer and musician perform, in the Mills Brothers Entertainment Center. Make a long afternoon out of it. Plenty of space, plenty of great music, plenty of fine drinks in The Randolph & McCulloch Complex.

PHS gradate publishes fourth book

PIQUA — Rev. Gary Wheeler, a 1979 graduate of Piqua, recently published his fourth book. “The Messengers: Bridges” is the second in his historical fiction series about a boy who finds Christ and grows in faith through the friendship and preaching of a Methodist Circuit Rider and his wife in the 1820s. Wheeler is the son of the late Jim and Beverly Wheeler, former pastor of Lockington United Methodist Church. He is also the son-in-law of Glenn and the late Carol Devers. Glenn was a long-time teacher in Piqua, while Carol worked for the Daily Call. Gary is the pastor of Germantown United Methodist Church in Germantown, Ohio. Nash wins scholarship from Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives

MIAMI VALLEY — Grace Nash was awarded a $ 1200 scholarship in the Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives’ (OEC) Louise Freeland Scholarship competition on March 3, 2022.

Nash, the daughter of Kristina Nash and Jeremy Nash, is a senior at Graham.

Seventeen students competed for $16,800 in scholarships, funded by the Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives.

Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives, a Touchstone Energy Cooperative, serves approximately 400,000 members in 77 of Ohio’s 88 counties.

Weldy wins scholarship from Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives

MIAMI VALLEY — Karissa Weldy was awarded a $ 3,000 scholarship in the Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives’ (OEC) Louise Freeland Scholarship competition on March 3, 2022.

Weldy, the daughter of Matthew Richard, is a senior at Bradford High School.

Seventeen students competed for $16,800 in scholarships, funded by the Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives.

Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives, a Touchstone Energy Cooperative, serves approximately 400,000 members in 77 of Ohio’s 88 counties.

Newton kindergarten screening set for April 29

PLEASANT HILL — Newton kindergarten registration is now open for the 2022-2023 school year. Students who will be 5 prior to August 1, 2022 are eligible.
