MIAMI COUNTY — The Miami County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 7-month-old infant who died on Thursday morning.

Deputies responded to the 6200 block of U.S. Route 40 in Bethel Township along with Bethel Township Fire Department for an infant not breathing at 8:24 a.m. on Thursday, May 14.

According to Deputy Chief Steve Lord, the child, Ava Gelvin, was pronounced deceased by paramedics and detectives who were sent to investigate the matter, which is a standard practice under such circumstances. Investigators are awaiting findings from the Miami County Coroner regarding the cause of death.

“We’re investigating it and are awaiting cause of death from the coroner,” Lord said Friday morning.

No immediate indications of foul play were detected, but the coroner’s report would provide more details, Lord said.
