Piqua city pool will not open for summer season

PIQUA — The city of Piqua Municipal Swimming Pool will not be opening this year.

The Piqua City Commission recently came to this decision due to several factors, according to a press release from the city of Piqua. The biggest factor is the impact COVID-19 has placed on the community, as well as due to the lack of lifeguards and the late start of the season for the year. The Piqua City Commission does not need to vote on this decision, according to city officials. A recommendation was made to City Manager Gary Huff. The RFP and advisory committee will continue to talk and develop plans for the pool.

“I know this will disappoint some, and I am disappointed, as well,” Piqua Mayor Kris Lee said. “The Piqua City Commission decided this is the best decision for the community at this time and plan for a pool in the future.”

The city of Piqua Municipal Swimming Pool will be closed this summer.
