PIQUA – Join the Piqua community at their weekly Piqua Community Farmers Market held every Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m. on High Street in front of the Piqua Public Library.

There are currently 16 approved vendors and with produce coming in, more vendors are coming each week, according to Mainstreet Piqua Director Lorna Swisher.

“All items at the market must be home-grown, homemade or home baked. We do allow a certain number of items that are not produced locally (South Carolina peaches etc.) We have a large variety of baked goods and because we want to focus on food, we limit the number of crafters,” said Swisher.

Individuals who utilize WIC, SNAP/EBT, Produce Perks, and Senior Farmers market Nutrition Program can use their benefits at the market. For information on what can be purchased with these benefits, visit www.piquafarmersmarket.com/ebt-snap-produce-perks. The site also contains instructions on how to use the benefits correctly.

“Attendance has been great. Now that produce is coming on we expect even more customers,” stated Swisher.

The market has an info booth available to anyone who has questions. The vendors at the market are able to accept credit cards.

“The vendors are all super friendly,” Swisher commented. “I love the fresh produce. In the ground in the morning and on my table in the evening. Love that!”

There will also be special events at various markets including a salsa contest on Thursday, Aug. 25, the Biggest Tomato Contest on Thursday, Sep. 8, and an Apple Pie Contest on Thursday, Sep. 29.

The last market will be held on Sep. 29. For more information on the market and special events, visit the market website at www.piquafarmersmarket.com.
