SIDNEY — The Troy American Legion Post 43 Legends baseball team was scheduled to play Sidney Post 217 at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the championship round of the Region 2 tournament at Custenborder Park.
If Troy wins the first game, a second game will follow at 8:30 p.m. to determine the champion. Sidney just needs one win.
Troy advanced with an 8-7 win over Piqua Post 184 Monday at Custenborder Park, using a big fourth inning and holding on for the win.
Piqua had jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
Xavier Ludwig walked and moved to third with one out when Troy dropped Caleb Wurster’s fly ball.
Ludwig scored on Logan Evans’ fielder’s choice on a close play at the plate and after Mason Davis walked, Damian Lawson drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 2-0.
Troy got one run in the home first.
Garrett LeMaster singled with one out.
With two out, Nathan Woolley was hit by a pitch. With LeMaster on third and Woolley on first, Troy executed a double steal to cut the deficit in half.
Piqua got a run in the second to make it 3-1.
Ludwig had a one-out single and came around to score on Wurster’s single.
Troy would tie it 3-3 in the home second.
After Jake Kramer walked, Owen Harlamert had a double to put runners on second and third.
Kale Francis had a sacrifice fly to score Kramer and with two put, LeMaster had a RBI single.
Piqua took a 4-3 lead in the fourth.
Aiden Ike doubled and scored on Ludwig’s single.
But, Troy would take control with five runs in the home fourth to go up 8-4.
Harlamert started things with his second double.
Francis singled him in to tie it 4-4.
Jaxon Hill walked and after a sacrifice fly by LeMaster, Tucker Miller walked to load the bases.
Woolley had a two-run single, Miller scored on a wild pitch and Gavin Martin capped the rally with a sacrifice fly to score Woolley.
Evan Hensler would take over on the mound for Piqua and hold Troy scoreless the rest of the way.
Piqua got within 8-6 in the fifth inning.
Davis reached on an error and Lawson singled.
Trenton Rudd walked to load the bases.
Dezmond Warner brought in one run with a sacrifice fly and Ike had a fielder’s choice to score the second run.
Piqua made it 8-7 in the sixth inning.
Hensler reached on an error and Evans walked.
Davis followed with a RBI single.
In the Piqua seventh, Ike had a single with one out on a blooper just over the infield.
But, Aaron Bostic came in to get the final two outs to finish off the win.
Wes Nidzgorski, Gabe Nichols, LeMaster, Miller and Bostic combined on a six-hitter for Troy, striking out three and walking seven.
Wurster and Hensler combined on a seven-hitter for Piqua, striking out four and walking seven.
