PIQUA — Stop by the Piqua Public Library to pick up the latest release by your favorite author, an activity packet, or one of its monthly or weekly programs. As always, these events are free.

Weekly programs include:

• Book Buddies is held from 4 to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in the Puppet Palace Room in the Children’s Department. Reading help for students in kindergarten through third grade. Each session is 15 minutes. After reading, the buddy will ask questions. Prizes will be given for participation and hard work.

• FTW Round Table is held from 5 to 6 p.m. Mondays in the Children’s Department. For The Win Round Table is a game discussion group for ages 9 to 13. Join Ms. Holly at the round table beside the children’s desk to chat and play activities based on video games.

• Genealogy help is offered from 1:30-5 p.m. Fridays in the Local History Department. Call for other days/times 937-773-6753 ext. 229.

• Lego Club is from 4 to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Puppet Palace Room for kids ages 7 to 13. Register for timed builds, theme builds, Lego games, and more! This program is open to the first 20 sign-ups each week. For Children’s Department programs that require registration, call 937-773-6753 Ext. 210 or email [email protected].

• Story Time is from 10:30-11 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays in the Children’s Department. The library has two programs, one for ages 0 to 2 and caregivers, and one for ages 3 to 5. Younger children will meet Ms. Holly in the Castle Area, and children ages 3 to 5 will meet with Ms. Melissa in the Puppet Palace Room. Registration is required.

• Writers Group is from 6:30-8 p.m. on Thursdays. Meet others who enjoy creative writing. No need to sign up in advance. Meet in the Founders Room.

Monthly programs include:

• Novels at Night with Angie will be from 7-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 16, in the Louis Room. This program is held every third Wednesday of the month. February’s book is “It Ends With Us” by Colleen Hoover.

• Portals to Piqua’s Past will be from 7-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 9, in the Founders Room. This history program is held every second Wednesday of the month. February’s topic is Civil Rights.

Special programs include:

• Miami County’s and More Black History will be from 6:30-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 23, in the Louis Room. John Piatt and Yuri Denny will present Black History in America. Topics will include slavery, the Underground Railroad, the Randolph Freedpeople, and Black soldiers from Miami Co. in the Civil War. Buffalo Soldiers, Black inventions, Civil Rights, Barack Obama, BLM, and more will also be covered.

Library services include:

These library services are available during our regular hours. They are provided to patrons and community members free of charge.

• Automatically Yours: Get the latest releases from your favorite authors. Fill out a form at the first-floor desk. The library will call you when your books are available.

• Binge Boxes: These are sets of four movie DVDs on a theme. Borrow for 14 days (no renewals) and up to four at a time.

• Book-a-Librarian: Individual, tailored sessions with library staff. In-depth technical assistance on a variety of topics. Call 937-773-6753 x225 or 234 to schedule.

• Curbside Book Pickup: Available Monday through Thursday. Call 937-773-6753 or visit piqualibrary.org to place your request.

• Flag Drop-Off: Dropbox on bank table on the first floor for worn-out flags. Piqua Harley-Davidson will take them for a Flag Retirement Ceremony.

• Glasses Donation: Dropbox from the Lions Clubs program on the first-floor desk. Donate usable glasses, non-prescription sunglasses, and hearing aids.

• InterLibrary Loan: Borrow books from participating libraries all over Ohio. Place your request at the second-floor desk.

• Meeting Rooms: Meeting rooms available for small groups and up to 20 people. No fee; available first-come, first-serve basis. Visit the library’s website at piqualibrary.org for details.
