TROY — Holiday shopping is in full swing and Troy Main Street is encouraging the community to shop small this holiday season by celebrating Small Business Saturday on Saturday, Nov. 26.

Small Business Saturday is a national shopping day created by American Express to encourage people to shop locally and support the small businesses in their community. Several small businesses in downtown Troy will have extended hours and/or offer special promotions throughout the day.

“Each year we work to encourage our local community to shop small all throughout the year but especially on Small Business Saturday,” said Andrea Keller, executive director of Troy Main Street in a press release. “It’s such a fun way to let our small businesses know that the community supports them.”

Troy Main Street has partnered with American Express and will be handing out “Shop Small” tote bags to the first 35 shoppers to stop into Winans Chocolates + Coffees with a receipt from a downtown business during Small Business Saturday. 10 of the “Shop Small” bags will have a gift card to a downtown business hidden inside. Troy Main Street will be set up from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. or until all bags are distributed. Troy Main Street will also be selling the book, “Grandpa Jack and the Legend of Santa’s Helpers,” written by local author, Chuck Karnehm. The books are $24 each and $10 of every sale will benefit Troy Main Street. These will also be sold in the back room of Winans Chocolates + Coffees from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. or until all of the books are sold.

Several small businesses in downtown Troy will have extended hours and/or offer special promotions throughout the day on Small Business Saturday including, Baker’s Locksmith, Crossroads Estate Sales, Four Acre Clothing Co., Ivy Court, Pedego Electric Bikes, Poppin’ Off Gourmet Popcorn, Poppy Lane Boutique, Pop-up at 4 W. Main (featuring 6 vendors) and Resignation Records. For specific store hours and promotions for the day, visit the Troy Main Street Facebook event page at https://fb.me/e/2LfaMargX.

“Each year the Troy community is always so supportive of our downtown businesses,” said Keller. “We are so blessed to live in a community that understands the importance of shopping small and we hope everyone will join us in shopping small this holiday season and all year long.”
