TROY — The Troy-Hayner Cultural Center has art, music, parties, meetings, local history and fun all wrapped up in the beautiful architecture of Mary Jane Hayner’s 1914 mansion in downtown Troy, Ohio, said Terrilynn Meece, music and marketing manager of the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center in her report.
Free admission makes it easy to walk in and enjoy the art exhibits and up-close concerts. The three-story mansion is a reminder of the elegant living of the Edwardian Era, adding grace and beauty to weddings, receptions, meetings and private parties. The Hayner also offers special events like an “unscary” Halloween Boo Bash for kids, sumptuous Holiday décor in December, and Valentine Dinner and a Show in February. Look for Poetry at Hayner to offer readings by published poets followed by an open mic session.
Jazz in March highlights nationally known jazz musicians in an intimate setting. An interview with each artist is a unique part of this concert. The rock and folk music scene gets involved in September for the Troy, Ohio PorchFest. Organized by the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center, 40 bands play on 40 porches for a free day of exciting music outdoors.
Art Day Camps give young students something to do during the summer, while art classes for all ages continue throughout the year in the art studio. The lovely courtyard garden is a relaxing spot to hear regional musicians perform during Lucky Lemonade Concerts on warm July evenings. Come inside for the Drawing Room Chamber Concert series and view classic films during the fall and winter or wander through the ever-changing fine art exhibits.
If you are looking for other cultural-minded friends, go on a bus trip with Hayner Hits the Road travel club. These trips take the fun to cultural destinations and great food is always included.
