TROY — Troy Main Street will be hosting its second Plein Air event this Saturday, July 23.

“Plein air is a French term that means out of doors,” explained Andrea Keller, executive director of Troy Main Street.

As the name suggests, the event will feature an array of local artists painting outdoors. Starting at 10 a.m., artists will disperse throughout the historic downtown area and attendees are free to admire and even talk to the artists while they work.

Then, at 4 p.m., the artists will put their day’s work up on display at Prouty Plaza where the paintings will be available for purchase.

“It is really fun if you’re here all day because you get to see the evolution of the painting,” said Keller.

In-between admiring the artists and their work, attendees can visit the local farmer’s market, shop, grab a bite, or take advantage of the new DORA (designated outdoor refreshment area).

This is the second Plein Air event hosted by Troy Main Street. Last year’s event took place alongside Sculptures in the Square — which takes place every other year — but with leftover funding the organization decided to bring it back as a standalone event.

“We really want to help support the arts here and continue to do something artistic downtown even in a year where we aren’t doing sculptures in the square,” said Keller.

There are still plenty of spots left for artists wanting to participate. If interested, contact [email protected] or sign up at the Troy Main Street booth at the farmer’s market the day of.
