PIQUA — Miami County’s three Miami Valley League wrestling teams got together at Roosevelt Fieldhouse Saturday for a tri-match before the MVL wrestling meet Friday at Vandalia-Butler.

Troy continued to shine, sweeping two matches and running its dual meet record on the season to 9-1.

Tippecanoe had defeated Piqua 40-38 in the opening match, then Troy defeated Tipp 46-30 and Piqua 50-28.

“It has been a long time since we have had this kind of dual meet team,” Troy coach Doug Curnes said. “In no way did I expect to go 9-1 in duals at the start of the season. The kids have done a great job. They came out and executed today.”

Against Tippecanoe, winning by pin for Troy were TJ Murray (106), Brayden Lester (144), Tyler Plunkett (157) and Xavier Poffenberger (175) all won by pin.

Danny Murray(165) had a major decision and Nathan Brewster (138), Owen Zickafoose (190) and De’Andre Jones (285) won by forfeit.

For Tipp, Caleb Slife (113), Trent Thompson (120), Kaden Price (126), Collin Isaac (132) and Payton Bey (150) all won by pin.

In the match with Piqua, winning by pin for Troy were Nathan Brewster (138), Logan Westerfield (150), Tyler Plunkett (157), Xavier Poffenberger (175) and De’Andre Jones (285).

Devon Gayle (120) and Danny Murray (165) won by forfeit.

“You are always looking to ride momentum,” Curnes said. “And the MVL is less than a week away.”

For Piqua, Brady Mikolajewski (126) capped a 2-0 day on Senior Day with a pin.

“That was probably the only highlight,” Piqua coach Hunter Bryant said. “We were missing some key guys, but that is not and excuse. This was not the Piqua wrestling team I have been watching. It is not over, but we have to get better.”

Also winning by pin in that match were Logan Wells (113) and Gavin Nelson (132).

Landen Martin (190) had a major decision and Hayden Barker (215) won by forfeit.
