Troy’s Grand Illumination set for Friday

TROY — Santa Claus is coming to town with Troy Main Street welcoming him on Friday, Nov. 24, along with the Grand Illumination.

“Witness the downtown Public Square transformed into a bustling hub of merriment, entertainment, and joy during our holiday tree lighting extravaganza this Friday, Nov. 24,” said Kennedy Coomes, executive director of Troy Main Street. “Santa’s arrival in downtown Troy is a heartwarming moment that unites our community and we invite you to celebrate with us! It is sure to be a joyous evening filled with carriage rides, hot cocoa, and more!”

The evening of the Grand Illumination kicks-off in downtown Troy at 5 p.m. Carriage rides will be held on the Public Square from 5-8:30 p.m., and free warm drinks, treats and glow sticks will be available the throughout the evening.

A musical performance by The Melody Men will take place on stage at 6:15 p.m. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be escorted downtown in a fire truck at 6:30 p.m.and then, with the help of some Christmas magic, they will light the community Christmas tree and the rest of downtown Troy around 7 p.m. All are welcome to experience the magical evening.

Troy Main Street sponsors whose generosity makes the event possible include Kettering Health, Alvetro Orthodontics, Beckstrom Orthodontics, Upper Valley Hearing & Balance Inc., Upper Valley Medical Center, Bakehouse Bread & Cookie Co., Chevrolet of Troy, Collins Aerospace, GNB Troy Banking Center, Hobart Institute of Welding Technology, KSM Metal Fabrication, ConAgra Foods, Excellence In Dentistry, Koverman Staley Dickerson Insurance, Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop – Troy and Winans Chocolates + Coffees.

The city of Troy also wants to alert the public that part of the Public Square will be closed Friday evening for the tress lighting ceremony. The square, except the southwest quadrant, but including one block each way on North and South Market Street and West Main Street, and two blocks out from the square on East Main Street, will be closed from 4 to approximately 9 p.m. South Walnut Street will be closed from the public parking lot to Water Street. The southwest quadrant of the Public Square will be closed from approximately 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday.
