VANDALIA — The Troy softball team improved to 10-2 overall and 8-2 in the MVL by completing a sweep of the season series with Vandalia-Butler Wednesday.

The Trojans used a four-run fourth inning to break open a close game and Abigail Welbaum continued her mastery of Butler on the mound in an 11-0 win.

In 16 innings in the two games against the Aviators, Welbaum gave up just one run — which was unearned.

She pitched a three-hitter in both games, this time striking out 11.

It was 3-0 going to fourth inning when Briana Lavender tripled and scored on Allyson Burns singled her in.

Burns would eventually scored on a double steal, stealing home and Welbaum would help herself by capping the rally with a two-run double to make it 7-0 before the Trojans added four more runs in the final two innings.

Lavender had a big game, going 4-for-5 with a double and a triple.

Burns was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Kloeker was 2-for-4 with two doubles.

Welbaum had a double and three RBIs, Elise McCann had two RBIs and Hallie Frigge had a double.

Tippecanoe 16,

W. Carrollton 0

WEST CARRLLTON — The Tippecanoe softball team cruised to a MVL win.

Ashley Aselage was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs and Emily Aselage was 3-for-3 with two RBIs.

Maddie Carner was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs and Ally Broering doubled.

Charlie Clausen was 3-for-4, Emma Davis was 3-for-5 and Kyla Fry was 4-for-4 with a double.

Kaela May was 3-for-4.

Anna Quinn pitched a one-hitter, striking out six and walking one.

Miami East 7,

Riverside 4

DEGRAFF — The Miami East softball team picked up a road win in TRC action Wednesday.

“We got a good win tonight,” Miami East coach Brian Kadel said. “We had several players get big hits when we needed them to get the win. Our defense also came up with plays to get us out of a jam late in the game.”

Kyleigh Kirby pitched a six-hitter, with six strikeouts and four walks.

She helped herself at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.

Reagan Howell and Jacqueline Kadel were both 2-for-4 and Rachel Haak had a double.

Bethel 4,

Lehman 2

BRANDT — The Bethel softball team picked up a TRC win over Lehman Catholic Wednesday.

Kaylee Eschete and Lily Williams combined on a seven-hiter for Bethel with nine strikeouts and three walks.

Tori Lachey and Emilee VanSkiver were both 2-for-3 for Lehman and Taylor Geise had a double.

Annie Stiver pitched a five-hitter, striking out seven and walking four.

Newton 12,

Tri-Village 11

NEW MADISON — The Newton softball team won a wild one on the road Wednesday.

The Indians trailed 11-7 after six innings, but score five runs in the seventh to win the game.

Cori Haines got the rally started with a three-run homer.

Ashley Evans and Sienna Montgomery followed with back-to-back doubles to tie the game.

Layla VanCulin then singled to bring in the winning run.

VanCulin entered the game on the mound in relief and got the win, shutting out Tri-Village in the home seventh to finish off the win.

Montgomery was 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Haines, along with the homer, was 2-for-4 and Evans 2-for-4.

Molly Norman was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs and Laci Miller was 2-for-5.
