PIQUA — The city of Piqua recently announced the hiring of Kevin T. Krejny as its new utilities director.
According to a Tuesday press release from the city, Krejny comes with extensive public sector experience, most recently as the water reclamation manager for Montgomery County Environmental Services.
“Having an efficient and well maintained infrastructure is vital to serve our residents, businesses, and visitors,” City Manager Paul Oberdorfer said in the release. “Kevin is devoted to making sure these reliable assets are accessible to our citizens.”
The Piqua utilities director is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and evaluating the programs and activities of the Water Treatment Plant, the Wastewater Treatment Plant, OEPA Stormwater Program, water distribution, sanitary sewer collection, and stormwater maintenance.
Krejny holds Class IV Wastewater Certification, Class III Water Supply Certification, and a bachelor’s degree in environmental health sciences from Wright State University, according to the release.
During his time with Montgomery County, Krejny successfully upgraded inefficient treatment technologies to provide enhanced treatment and lowered operating costs through long-term capital improvements and upgrades.
“Krejny has lowered operating costs, for several water and wastewater facilities, by focusing on energy and chemical usage and efficient operations,” the release states. “Keeping these major operating costs low can help stabilize utility rates paid by the customers.”
Within the past two decades, Krejny has also worked for Clark County Utilities, Greene County, City of Fairborn Wastewater Treatment Plant, and MACTEC Engineering & Consulting Inc. in various water and wastewater capacities.
