LEBANON — The Miami East softball team advanced to the D-III regional semifinal with a 12-1 win in five innings over Clermont Northeastern Thursday.

East will play the Carlisle at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Centerville High School.

Northeastern had taken an early 1-0 lead.

“We started a little shaky, walking one and hitting one in the top of the first,” Miami East coach Brian Kadel said.

With one out and the bases load, East got a force out at second with one run scoring.

Kayly Fetters fired home from first base to catcher Braven Mills to get an out to end the inning.

“Only giving up one run in that inning was huge,” Kadel said. “

Kiera Kirby doubled a runner off bases later in the game when she caught a ball in shallow left field and threw in for the double play.

Madison Maxson was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and four RBIs.

Jacqueline Kadel was 3-for-4 with a double and a triple and Kayly Fetters was 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

Kiera Kirby was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Kalli Teeters was 2-for-4 and Abigail Kadel had a double.

“Several girls stepped up tonight at the plate,” Kadel said. “They tried to limit our offense by taking the bat out of Kyleigh’s (Kirby) hands, but the girls behind her came through with big hits.”

Kyleigh Kirby pitched a two-hitter, striking out four and walking four.
